Objectives
- The primary objective for the study was to quantify productivity and phenotypic characteristics of the Ankole breed under pastoral/agro-pastoral management in order to compare with other indigenous breeds of cattle.
- A subsidiary objective, the one considered in this case study, was to see whether this study approach would allow elite cows for milk production to be selected that might form a nucleus breeding herd for a future genetic improvement programme.
